Howells Patent Glazing Ltd have recently introduced a new product to the range. It is called U Profiled glazing and has been successfully installed in numerous locations by us in the UK. These sites include: INA Bearings, Wales Shrager Hotel, National Ice Centre in Nottingham, Baglan Energy Park, Port Talbot and Mailbox Birmingham.
Howells have also recently completed a new contract £1,000,00 at Millenium Point, Digbeth which ended September 2001.
U profiled glazing was developed in post war Eastern Europe and with new introduction of modern materials and glazing techniques it has evolved into a now popular glazing system. It is used throughout Europe and in various kinds of building types.
Structural Properties
Standard U profile glass sections, which possess excellent inherent structural properties, fit into a framing system to create a flush structural glazing system for roofs, external walls and internal partitions, allowing applied loadings to be accommodated without any intermediate support or framing members.
The strongest U profile glass has a narrow section width, whereas the weakest has the widest sectional width. All installations must be able to accommodate applied design load (for wind, snow etc.)
Thermal Insulation
It can be supplied with or without a thermal break option. The glass can be prepared in any combination of the following options: plain, coloured, wire enforced, sandblasted, single or double glazed, toughened and balustrades.
For extra thermal insulation, in addition to double glazing a transparent honeycomb insulation can be added within the glazing cavity.
Location
U Profiled glazing can be used in multiple locations, such as commercial, residential, industrial, educational and recreational buildings, apartments, offices, factories, process buildings, sports and assembly hall and any other type of building where natural light is required.
U Profile can be manufactured in single or double glazing and can span horizontally or vertically. It will also curve by using narrow module glass sections in a facetted arangement and curved aluminium framing members.

U Profiled glazing is the economic option as it does not require glazing bars.
